OK so I just installed a new exhaust. It is just the tip, we didnt do the headers. I installed a viper can. My bike as been backfiring now as I deselerate. I didnt rejet the bike so I am wondering if that is my first problem. I am patially getting air flow causing backfires and some loss of power with throttle control. Any suggestions? Undecided

you have an sv650s right? if so....some backfiring is normal but if there's a lot and loss of throttle control....you're possibly running too lean or you need to use a higher octane fuel....to prevent pre-detonation.

You kind of have a problem, with a exhaust you are expected to hear "popping" during decel shouldn't be backfiring. If you notice a loss of power you are too lean and you should stop riding until you can throw a jet kit in. When you run lean you run hot...and you have alot more potential of putting a hole in the piston or blowing a valve.

BTW your not partially getting airflow...Aftermarket exhausts allow better flow and it leans out the cylinder...The bike is no different but the amount of fuel to air mix is whats hurting your performance and your ears lol.

sv or ninja?

2003 sv's are FI so you should be fine if it's just a slip-on.

if it's for the ninja, slap the stock can back on and see if the problem goes away. if it does you will probably need to jet it to richen things up like the other guys suggested.

good luck

You need a jet or a tune.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. My bike is a 2003 SV650S. I noticed a little air leak, nothing major but I am going to patch it up tomorrow and see if it makes a difference. Did everyone have a nice holiday?
